Gnome 2.24 problems?

No, there isn't.
Gnome-2.24 is available for FreeBSD and works quite nicely, too. See
http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/develfaq.html
It only hasn't been merged into the ports tree yet, since 
everybody is waiting for the 7.1 RELEASE.
