I thought you said you upgraded to Python 2.5.  If you did, you need to
follow all the upgrade steps in /usr/ports/UPDATING to make sure all
Python-dependent ports are rebuilt against the new Python.  If you have
not updated, then you're missing /usr/local/lib/libpython2.4.so.1.  To
fix that you would need to reinstall the python port.

Another thought is that if this is otherwise a clean system,
remove /usr/local, and /var/db/pkg, then try installing GNOME again from
ports with an up-to-date ports tree.

If all else fails, you can install GNOME from packages.  See
http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/faq2.html#q21 for more details.
