I had some time to look into this, and I think I have a working port.
Please test http://www.marcuscom.com/downloads/avahi-qt3.sh .  You will
first need to put
http://www.marcuscom.com/downloads/patch-avahi-qt3.pc.in and
http://www.marcuscom.com/downloads/patch-avahi-qt_Makefile.in in
net/avahi/files.
