I am not sure.  I currently run with BCI disabled on the machine where I
use OpenOffice, and the fonts look okay to me.  We are currently running
with this patch in MarcusCom ports, and I haven't had any negative
feedback yet.  You might discuss this with the patch submitter.  Perhaps
disabling the auto-hinter should be a separate option.
