Windows "Super"-key and Gnome keybindigs

Hello everybody,
I am trying to make use of gnome keybindings to be able to quick-launch
various programs. As the combinations like <Ctrl><Alt>X are a bit
overwhelming (and besides might be reserved combinations in
applications), I want to be able to use the Windows ("Super") key and
launch like <Super>e (for Evolution), <Super>f (for Firefox) etc.
What I DID manage to do is to turn this Super key into a modifier using
xmodmap:
shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock Caps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d)
mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_L (0x7d)
mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4 Meta_L (0x73), Super_L (0x7f), Hyper_L (0x80), Meta_L
(0x9c)
mod5 Mode_switch (0x5d), ISO_Level3_Shift (0x7c)
And now "Gnome Keyboard Shortcuts" shows my desired combinations like
<Mod4>t, <Mod4>f etc...
The problem is that only gnome-terminal works via <Mod4>t (or
whatever) :-(
And another question: is it possible to simulate the windows-behaviour
of the Super-key? E.g. when only this key alone is pressed and released,
the startup menu comes up. But simultaneously it can also be used as a
modifier (for example, to call "Run" dialog via <Super>r)???
Any ideas?
Eugene
