xscreensaver-gnome doesn't start?

I got xscreensaver to launch when no one is logged in, but I cannot get it
working when I logged in. My ~/.xsession:
#!/bin/sh
xscreensaver -nosplash &
Any clue on what I am missing? If I manually execute .xsession, it runs
fine.
