Totem unable to play DVD discs

(FreeBSD-5.3-STABLE, totem 0.99.22)

When I try to play DVD disc, following error mesage pops up.
"Failed to play Audio/Video Disc
 Failed to retrieve capabilities of device /dev/acd0: Inappropriate ioctl for device"

It has probably nothing to do with permissions because when logged as root I get the same result.
Tried both totem and totem-gstreamer, my compiled ports or precompiled packages, same results again.
Device /dev/acd0 is correct.

Mplayer works without problems.

Any idea what's wrong ?
