Peter, is /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.la owned by any port?  If not, and it
probably won't be, then you should be able to safely delete it and
restart building metacity again with no problem.  You may also want to
see if the xorg or XFree86-libraries ports are still installing this
file and let the maintainer know if they are.
