rebuilding with newer compiler

The 3.2 compiler is MUCH slower than the 2.95 code. It MAY be less
buggy, although that is not clear. (It does, at least, have different
bugs.) The output appears to be a bit faster, but not monumentally
so.

The only reason for rushing to V3 is compatibility with standards,
especially in the C++ area. I don't see Gnome really benefiting all
that much, but you can always give it a shot and see what your results
might be.
