wireless applet for wi interface

just mucking around and noticed this wireless applet.

however it just comes up with n/a for me when I load it.

further fishing around revealed that support for wi is available in
gnomeapplets2 2.2.2_1.

however i don't seem to be having much luck.. any tips?

/usr/ports/x11/gnomeapplets2 > pkg_info| grep applet
