gaim is technically marcus's port, but it still falls under the Realm of
GNOME ;;)

Getting it working would be of great value to you. Right now, what you
really need is a good "pkgdb -F" which is part of the portupgrade
package. cvsup your *entire* ports tree and install the latest
portupgrade. Then run "pkgdb -F" (if that fails, try "pkgdb -fF") and
then "portupgrade -a". Your system will thank you ::)

Something like the above is definitely NOT a good thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the redundancies above have something to do
with the problem.

What's probably going on is that an old version of the (probably GTK)
headers are installed, and are being read in before the proper ones. Can
you please give an "ls -l /usr/X11R6/include"?
