Can you update to today's -current and set a couple of debug sysctl's
for me?

debug.sbp_debug = 1
debug.firewire_debug = 1

Then connect your iPod.  I think that you are not the only one who is
having issues.  I wish my firewire drive didn't work, it would make this
much easier.
