any chance to get vmware3 working for 5.4 release?

I tried vmware3 port on 5.4-BETA1 host, and it either locks
the host machine solid or silently reboots it, as soon as the
"Power on" button is pressed.  Has anyone succeeded running
vmware3 on 5.4?

-CURRENT also started having the same problem around Feb 12.
