Linux Enemy Territory very slow in menus

It looks like software rendering in the menu, hardware 
rendering in the game itself, but I have no idea why the
hardware rendering in the menu fails. No useful logs around?
I might give it a try this week and see what happens on my 
machine (GForce4 Ti4200).
