From ericx at vineyard.net Fri Dec 12 10:04:01 2008 From: ericx at vineyard.net (Charlie Root) Date: Fri Dec 12 10:04:07 2008 Subject: eclipse crashing on launch Message-ID: <20081212174540.C7A2DC159E8@smtp.ericx.net> Sorry to bother you, but I've had no luck with google on this. Primarily I get the following on the command line: /libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /u1/home/ericx/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.3.0_666729633/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/80/1/.cp/libswt-mozilla-gtk-3349.so: Undefined symbol "NS_StringContainerInit2" This occurs during startup while the eclipse splash is still being displayed. The text flashes quickly but I believe the last module name displayed is org.eclipse.intro.universal Then I get a dialog box with the following: JVM terminated. Exit code=1 /usr/local/bin/java -Xms40m -Xmx256m -jar /u1/local/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.1.R33x_v20080118.jar -os freebsd -ws gtk -arch x86 -showsplash -launcher /u1/local/eclipse/eclipse -name Eclipse --launcher.library /u1/local/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.gtk.freebsd.x86_1.0.3.R33x_v20080118/eclipse_1023.so -startup /u1/local/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.1.R33x_v20080118.jar -exitdata 70001 -vm /usr/local/bin/java -vmargs -Xms40m -Xmx256m -jar /u1/local/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.1.R33x_v20080118.jar Interestingly the exit data is always different. I have seen 20000, 30000, 70001 and 80001 Presumably something is missing in xulrunner. Below is my list of current dependencies. I will try recompiling everything. By any chance, is this a known problem? I'm not sure how actively java/eclipse is being cared for these days. If you're specifically interested in Eclipse 3.3, I'm sure someone here will have a suggestion or two. (I might, but I'm about to run away for the weekend, sorry!) Cheers, Mike. -- "You don't see FreeBSD developers sitting in a smoke-filled room plotting the overthrow of Microsoft. Somehow the port "recipe" doesn't match what's in the distribution file. In this case, it looks like you're using a rather old copy of the ports tree, since java/eclipse is now Eclipse 3.3. Unless you're specifically looking to run Eclipse 3.1, I'd suggest updating your ports and trying again. If java/eclipse doesn't work for you, give java/eclipse-devel a try, as it's more actively maintained. Hope that helps, Mike. -- "You don't see FreeBSD developers sitting in a smoke-filled room plotting the overthrow of Microsoft.
