No objection here, but just an idea: It is also possible to use
something like:

<acronym role="Wired Equivalent Privacy">WEP</acronym>

when this is rendered in HTML, the text in "role" appears on mouse-over
(what most would call a tool tip).
Maybe we could use this the first time the acronym is used (except if it
is already expanded in the preceeding text of course).
