Actually the manual page contains the correct URL, which is without
the trailing dot - "http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/makeworld.html"
The dot comes from the rendition of this entry as a bibliography entry -
Groff (the manual pages rendering package) thinks that each bibliography
entry should end in a dot.

So basically, just remove the dot at the end :)
