Switchover to CAM ATA?

How different are the interfaces? I mean - since they talk to the same 
device, are the differences just API / superficial or is there something 
fundamentally different that cannot be implemented within burncd?

(I agree that burncd is very nice to have and more logical to use than 
cdrecord.)
