-RW media needs more read sensitivity that -R media.
Maybe its just chance if your -rw drive is on 7 & can read what it writes, &
maybe you have a less sensitive drive -R on your current box ?
If theyre external USB, easy to swop & try.
PS Might possibly even be power, affecting digital levels,
(I once had an old box would crash on CD access"
the spin up surge pulled power too low for CPU :-)
