This can also happen if you haven't recompiled some ports after the
shmctl change - kde apps like digikam, plasma etc. are all affected.

Also ensure that libdrm, the xorg-server itself and drivers have been
recompiled - really 'odd things' happen if you don't - some will dump
core, some will hang the system,
