My E6600s idle at around 35 C in the summer and 25 C in the winter
(they're in an unheated room).

85 C (not 75 C as I wrote earlier - I misremembered) is critical for a
C2D, except for some Xeon-branded models which go up to 100 C.  See the
comments in the coretemp driver.
