just use HEAD from CVS for now, it's mostly (modulo original contrib sources) 
mirrored SVN which is not yet publicly announced -- then you get 8-CURRENT

At your place I'd establish local CVS repo mirror via net/cvsup-without-gui (or 
even net/cvsup-mirror) and then checkout/update from there.

At least that's what I do both at home and at work. ;-)
