After installing the both patchs (the re(3) can be found at
http://people.freebsd.org/~yongari/re/re.HEAD.patch):

In general it seems to be working well with only one possible issue (I
don't think it is either patch):

* Some sites take a long time or do not complete load in firefox 2.0.0.7
