5.2.1 hangs on boot where 5.1 does not (ATA issue)

I will check the cable seating, but this machine has been running
fine for three years now, and *still* runs fine under 5.1 (I'm
typing on it now), so I don't see how the cables, or even more the
jumper settings, could be the problem.
