Possible to run i386 binaries on AMD64?

The script is massively broken because of the recent 
changes to make(1) and the recent import of gcc 3.4.2.
I've spent a few days trying to get it to work, but 
my only reward is frustration.

Oh, I should have mentions I can run my static i386 binaries,
it is dynamically linked binaries that trouble me.
