A bit of trivia: what does usr stand for?

Hey,

I had a friend tell me once that usr wasn't short for "user" as I've long
thought, but was actually an abbreviation for something more interesting
(and technical).

For some reason, I've been thinking about this today.  Does anyone know if
this is true, and if so, what usr actually stands for?
