The output from /etc/rc.d/defaultroute is a bit misleading because it claims to be waiting for "an interface to come up" but it's actually waiting for DHCP to create a default route: having seen the message "re0: link state changed to UP" earlier in the boot process one may wonder why the system still waits a few seconds.  In fact the script now only runs if an interface is /already/ UP and it's actually waiting for a default route to appear.
