FreeBSD athena.daycos.com 7.0-STABLE FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE #3: Wed Jul 23 15:24:38 CDT 2008 root at minerva.daycos.com:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MINERVA amd64
>Description:
I have an entry in /etc/fstab to mount a Windows share:
//kirk at tiffsrv/vdrive /mnt/tiffsrv/vdrive smbfs rw,noexec 0 0
For whatever reason, mount_smbfs can't resolve that address (although smbclient can):
# mount /mnt/tiffsrv/vdrive
mount_smbfs: can't get server address: syserr = Operation timed out
So, I added an entry to /etc/nsmb.conf like so, following the example in the "[FSERVER]" block:
[TIFFSRV:KIRK]
password=mypassword
addr=tiffsrv.office.daycos.com
I still get the same error:
# mount /mnt/tiffsrv/vdrive
mount_smbfs: can't get server address: syserr = Operation timed out
If I hardcode the hostname into /etc/fstab, though, it works as expected:
//kirk at tiffsrv/vdrive /mnt/tiffsrv/vdrive smbfs rw,noexec,-Itiffsrv.office.daycos.com 0 0
I don't know whether this is a problem with the documentation for nsmb.conf or with mount_smbfs, but the end result is that it doesn't work as stated.
>How-To-Repeat:
>Fix:
Use the "-I" option to mount_smbfs to specify the address.
