It seems the bce driver cannot negotiate the link speed properly, at least not on a HP ProLiant DL380 G5.

I've tried it against various gig-ethernet adapters and it always comes up as  a 100Mbit link. My ProLiant has two BCM5708's and connecting them back to back with a crossed cable fails too, that is - the negotiated link speed is 100Mbits.
