I'm using an INTEL  D865GLC mobo, which has an AC97 on board. Playing audio using xmms through it sounds terrible (it sounds like its overdriving the amp).

I disabled it and put in:

pcm0: <CMedia CMI8738> port 0xb800-0xb8ff irq 17 at device 2.0 on pci1

and it all works fine with the rest of the setup unchanged.
