>Description:
4.9-PRE hangs for many people on startup. For most people, this problem has only been present in STABLE for the past few months -- it was okay in July -- but I had trouble with 4.8-RELEASE.
I can't boot with my IOGear 2-port USB KVM connected; it has an integral hub that switches over to the USB port of the active system. The KVM/hub works fine if I connect it after the system's up, but FreeBSD booting halts during USB probing if the hub is connected. This happens with or without other devices plugged into the KVM's built-in hub.
During the last week, several other people have posted similar problems to freebsd-stable (threads are "USB Problem" & "USB hangs during boot of 4.9"), as well as "4.9-PRE hanging on boot with USB KVM active" on freebsd-hardware.
Once my system (Dell 600SC with BIOS A05; it offers no option to disable legacy USB support, as one person suggested) is up, attaching looks like this:
uhub1: Texas Instruments TUSB2046 hub, class 9/0, rev 1.10/1.25, addr 2
uhub1: 4 ports with 4 removable, self powered
Detaching looks like this:
uhub1: at uhub0 port 1 (addr 2) disconnected
uhub1: detached
Here's a normal boot, with just the onboard hub:
