 I just noticed a very strange thing:

 After my sound dissapeared again a few hours ago, I started looking for
 ways to get it back without a reboot and this is what I ran into:

 ==========================
 localhost# sysctl hw.snd
 hw.snd.targetirqrate: 32
 hw.snd.report_soft_formats: 1
 hw.snd.verbose: 1
 hw.snd.unit: 0
 hw.snd.maxautovchans: 4
 hw.snd.pcm0.buffersize: 4096
 hw.snd.pcm0.vchans: 1
 ==========================

 After doing this:

 ==========================
 localhost# sysctl hw.snd.pcm0.vchans=4
 hw.snd.pcm0.vchans: 1 -> 4
 ==========================

 The sound seems to work in all apps again. Is it possible that something
 "bumps down" the value of hw.snd.pcm0.vchans causing problems at the
 same time ?
