usbdump -i usbusX -f Y.0 -s 65536 -vvv

Will dump all the USB traffic on endpoint 0, which is used to 
communicate with the SMSC phy over USB.

Try to turn on SMSC debugging first, and see if there are any errors or 
timeouts.
