I disconnected the drive chasis (we have two SAS chasis with a total of 24 drive). It booted. I had thought I tried this before bit this time it worked. I tried just attaching 1 chasis and 12 drives. It locked up at the "-" again I went into the 3ware controller and disabled the ability to boot from the 3ware card (we don't need to boot from it anyway), and with both chasis attached, it worked. We went ahead and went back to the computer with a PERC6/I controller and it worked with the 3ware BIOS set not able to boot. So it appears, that something has happened during the boot/loader process in 8.0-RC2 that doesn't like the 3ware controller advertising its drives as bootable. This ticket is attached to amd64 but that was my mistake. This problem happens pre-kernel. Let me know if someone can change the category of if you prefer for me to submit a new PR. Thanks!!! IPFIREWALL_VERBOSE sends # logged packets to the system logger. IPFIREWALL_VERBOSE_LIMIT # limits the number of times a matching entry can be logged. # # WARNING: IPFIREWALL defaults to a policy of "deny ip from any to any" # and if you do not add other rules during startup to allow access, # YOU WILL LOCK YOURSELF OUT. It is suggested that you set firewall_type=open # in /etc/rc.conf when first enabling this feature, then refining the # firewall rules in /etc/rc.firewall after you've tested that the new kernel # feature works properly. # # IPFIREWALL_DEFAULT_TO_ACCEPT causes the default rule (at boot) to # allow everything. Use with care, if a cracker can crash your # firewall machine, they can get to your protected machines. However, # if you are using it as an as-needed filter for specific problems as # they arise, then this may be for you. Changing the default to 'allow' # means that you won't get stuck if the kernel and /sbin/ipfw binary get # out of sync. # # IPDIVERT enables the divert IP sockets, used by ``ipfw divert''. It # depends on IPFIREWALL if compiled into the kernel. # # IPFIREWALL_FORWARD enables changing of the packet destination either # to do some sort of policy routing or transparent proxying. Used by # ``ipfw forward''. All redirections apply to locally generated # packets too. Because of this great care is required when # crafting the ruleset. # # IPFIREWALL_NAT adds support for in kernel nat in ipfw, and it requires # LIBALIAS. To build an ipfw kld with nat support enabled, add # "CFLAGS+= -DIPFIREWALL_NAT" to your make.conf. # # IPSTEALTH enables code to support stealth forwarding (i.e., forwarding # packets without touching the TTL). This can be useful to hide firewalls # from traceroute and similar tools. # # TCPDEBUG enables code which keeps traces of the TCP state machine # for sockets with the SO_DEBUG option set, which can then be examined # using the trpt(8) utility. # #options MROUTING # Multicast routing options IPFIREWALL #firewall options IPFIREWALL_VERBOSE #enable logging to syslogd(8) options IPFIREWALL_VERBOSE_LIMIT=100 #limit verbosity options IPFIREWALL_DEFAULT_TO_ACCEPT #allow everything by default options IPFIREWALL_FORWARD #packet destination changes options IPFIREWALL_NAT #ipfw kernel nat support options IPDIVERT #divert sockets options IPFILTER #ipfilter support options IPFILTER_LOG #ipfilter logging options IPFILTER_LOOKUP #ipfilter pools #options IPFILTER_DEFAULT_BLOCK #block all packets by default options IPSTEALTH #support for stealth forwarding # The MBUF_STRESS_TEST option enables options which create # various random failures / extreme cases related to mbuf # functions. This night i copied 200GB of data from my old server to the FreeBSD server. This morning the FreeBSD server did not respond to anything over the network so i connected the monitor and keyboard. The server had some sort of kernel panic and was unable to continue. I rebooted the server and copied the /var/log directory, but i do not know what files to attach to this report. The project's official website is at http://partclone.org/index.php Question: Why do I want to write this tutorial for building and installing partclone? Answer: The authors of partclone only provide Debian .deb binary packages in addition to source tarballs. There are no RPM binary packages for partclone at all. Pre-requisites: 1. Install the following development packages. # yum install glibc-devel e2fsprogs-devel 2. Install the libufs2 port to Linux. Read the tutorial here: http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2009-November/msg01253.html Download the latest partclone source release from http://sourceforge.net/projects/partclone/files/0.1.9/partclone_0.1.9-4.tar.gz/download Extract the partclone source tarball after completing the download. $ tar xfvz partclone_0.1.9-4.tar.gz Change directory into the partclone source directory tree. $ cd partclone-0.1.9 Apply the following patch to the configure script. $ patch < configure-fc11.patch File configure-fc11.patch: Patch by Mr. Teo En Ming (Zhang Enming) to allow partclone to compile and install on Fedora 11 x86_64 Email: space.time.universe@gmail.com MSN: teoenming@hotmail.com Mobile Phone: +65-8369-2618 Location: Bedok Reservoir Road, Singapore Date: 18 November 2009 Wednesday SGT --- configure ? 2009-11-16 13:59:33.000000000 +0800 +++ configure ? 2009-11-17 13:30:57.825923347 +0800 @@ -7729,7 +7729,7 @@ ?{ $as_echo "$as_me:$LINENO: checking version of libextfs" >&5 ?$as_echo_n "checking version of libextfs... My bet is that your setup will work very well, but beware that there is no nVidia driver for amd64 yet, so you'll be stuck with either xorg-drivers-nv, a third party open source driver which for newer cards has no xv support (the only issue I have is that when watching video with an aspect ratio other than 1:1 it won't automatically rescale) and no 3D support for any cards, or the nouveau driver, another third party open source driver which is still highly experimental, but has some features that xorg-drivers-nv lacks (no 3D though). So, if you need 3D you should either install i386, which will also work well with your hardware, or wait for the amd64 proprietary nVidia driver. If you're not in too much of a hurry, I'd suggest the latter, because word has it the nVidia driver for amd64 is just around the corner. And then the 8.0-RELEASE will probably be out as well, and you won't have to go through an upgrade. Firefox + Flash sometimes pushes it close to swapping, but it's fine otherwise. It will be fine with the 3G RAM: amd64 can handle much more memory than ia32, but it doesn't need significantly more: program size and data size are usually fairly comparable. Depends a bit on the density of pointers and linked structures. Code and non-pointer data is essentially the same size. What *won't* be totally fine is the Nvidia graphics card. Nvidia provide a closed-source driver only for ia32, and the open-source drivers work so well that I switched to ATI on my amd64 desktop system (and have been happy ever since.) > I need my laptop for Programming, scientific calculations and heavy > mathematical stuff. So lack of whizzy 3D accelleration is probably not a big deal: you might get by with the nv (open source) driver. Languages, compilers and numerical libraries all work very nicely in amd64.
