From snopyland at gmail.com Thu Jul 3 04:01:13 2008 From: snopyland at gmail.com (Snopy Land) Date: Thu Jul 3 04:47:52 2008 Subject: port for clamav version 0.93.1 Message-ID: Hi, My server version is FreeBSD 6.2 AMD and it has been installed with ClamAV to scan email virus. I usually download the new port of clamav from ftp://ftp.tw.freebsd.org/pub/ports/packages/security/. However, I find that the above site does not provide the lastest version anymore. (only show 0.92.1) Anyone know where can I get the lastest port for clamAV for freebsd 6.2 AMD? The lastest version should be 0.93.1. I am not sure whether I should post on this mailing list. Any advices are appreciated. Thanks. I think you are running the binary compiled on 32 bit to 64 bit. Am I right? You need to recompile your code to run on amd64 bit machine. Hope this is helpful to you. Mayank Jain I'm running 6.2-BETA2/amd64 and received the following error when trying to run a 32-bit app: ELF interpreter /libexec/ld-elf32.so.1 not found I've done a few mailing list searches and see talk relating to missing libs, but I don't know how to install/compile these libs on 6.2-BETA2. Any pointers would be appreciated. We have a machine which we recently converted to a FreeBSD 7 Box whose sole purpose in existence is to deal with a product which communicates over a disk based queue served up via CIFS to clients. This machine is pretty heavily loaded with these requests and shortly after putting the machine into production the machine would crash daily (sometimes more than once) with the very same characteristics. We've swapped the drives to another machine with the same results. The panic drops a number for cores and each one's backtrace shows corrupted stack. We've not tried booting without ACPI support though I have ruled out memory and temperature issues by swapping hardware around and keeping an eye on the environment. Here is a simple back trace from the panic's core. deadline-la# cat info.9 Dump header from device /dev/da0s1b Architecture: amd64 Architecture Version: 2 Dump Length: 170438656B (162 MB) Blocksize: 512 Dumptime: Fri Jul 18 17:25:32 2008 Hostname: deadline-la.franticfilms.com Magic: FreeBSD Kernel Dump Version String: FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE #0: Sun Feb 24 10:35:36 UTC 2008 root@driscoll.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC Panic String: page fault Dump Parity: 113022818 Bounds: 9 Dump Status: good deadline-la# kgdb /boot/kernel/kernel /var/crash/vmcore.9 [GDB will not be able to debug user-mode threads: /usr/lib/libthread_db.so: Undefined symbol "ps_pglobal_lookup"] GNU gdb 6.1.1 [FreeBSD] Copyright 2004 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Can you explain what you mean here. You just said you can't enter any input to the console so how are you logging in? If you switch back to graphical console but leave getty enabled on ttyd0, can you then login via the serial port? >sio0: configured irq 4 not in bitmap of probed irqs 0 >sio0: port may not be enabled >sio0: configured irq 4 not in bitmap of probed irqs 0 >sio0: port may not be enabled This is definitely not correct and is likely to be the associated with the problem. I don't understand why the SIO ports are probed twice. Would it be possible to get verbose dmesg from both i386 and amd64 boots? -- Peter Jeremy Please excuse any delays as the result of my ISP's inability to implement an MTA that is either RFC2821-compliant or matches their claimed behaviour. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I can reproduce this at will on the freebsd.org cluster. Usually just pressing 'enter' on the serial console will break it. Sometimes it takes pressing it two or three times. I "solved" it for some of the machines by adding a few 'usleep(10000)' calls in getty in a few strategic places. It reduced the problem, but not entirely. Interestingly, simply logging into the machine on the video console and killing the getty or login process on the serial console almost always revived it. What is most amusing is that it seems that just the output path is busted. When the console is hosed like this on our machines, you can log in and issue commands - just can't see the output. The machines I saw this on were from the 2950 series. 1.86GHz and 2.00GHz. I do not know if the sio driver is getting messed up, or if the *emulated* serial hardware is getting confused. There is no real 16550-style hardware on these machines. It is virtual hardware, so that it can be encapsulated in IPMI / serial-over-lan protocol via the bmc. >>sio0: configured irq 4 not in bitmap of probed irqs 0 >>sio0: port may not be enabled >>sio0: configured irq 4 not in bitmap of probed irqs 0 >>sio0: port may not be enabled > > This is definitely not correct and is likely to be the associated with > the problem. I don't understand why the SIO ports are probed twice. I don't think this is the cause. It attaches once. The 'not in bitmap' thing is expected for amd64 kernels though. It is harmless. It is because I didn't implement the isa-specific shared-interrupt detection code. Remember the old ISA slots where you could plug in serial cards on shared interrupts? Since there are (theoretically) no physical-isa-bus amd64 class machines in existence, I didn't see the need to add code to support this. I see the same behaviour both under FreeBSD 7/amd64 and under the Solaris 10, fully patched, on all our PE 2950 (III ?) with DRAC. The input works on FreeBSD and Solaris, while output is often lost. Rebooting the DRAC does not help. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... If that may help, I tried to put the same HDD into another computer with a 945G chipset. After a little "Xorg -configure" I succeed to run X with "Xorg -config /root/xorg.conf.new". I also run linux on the same box (the one with the G33), and xorg works perfectly. So I really think the problem is the IGP kernel driver. Well, the obvious thing to do to help is ask why wouldn't you want 64 bit apps & libraries on a 64 bit platform? That's what you get if you install the package or build the port. Anyway, the flag you want for gcc is "-m32". Given that flag, it will invoke gnu-ld trying to build 32 bit applications as well, so just use gcc as your linker with that flag. Of course, last time I checked, neither of these did things like making sure you got the right version of platform-specific header files or linked with the right libraries and support code. I also recall some reports that, once you get things to work, the resulting binaries don't run on i386 platforms. http://www.mired.org/consulting.html Independent Network/Unix/Perforce consultant, email for more information. The gcc flag to make gcc emit i386 code is "-m32". Note that FreeBSD _does_not_ include the infrastructure for this to work - the contents of /usr/include/machine all define/assume I32LP64. If you compile with '-m32', you wind up with objects that should be 64-bit (eg off_t) being 32-bits long - which in turn breaks stat(2), mmap(2) etc. And, even if you get a trivial app to link, it won't run on on a real i386 because it has the wrong rtld name embedded in it. There are a couple of open PRs about this but fixing it is non-trivial. Your only current option is to install an i386 world (as well as your amd64 world) and chroot into it to build i386 apps. Note that even this approach will not work for things that use libkvm or otherwise grovel around in kmem. >about handling any other problems, I just want to know the way to >coax gcc (and gnu-ld) to think purely 32 bit. You'd have to be fairly blind not to understand this... would you tell the hunter that you can't understand why they don't just visit the butcher's? Thanks, is that all? Easy enough, appreciate that. Note that FreeBSD > _does_not_ include the infrastructure for this to work - the contents > of /usr/include/machine all define/assume I32LP64. Well, I'm doing this with X11, which was written to begin with in a 32 bit atmosphere, and does have several nontrivial 64 bit problems. Yes, I could go back and fix them, but right now, that's not the main road, I need to build it as a test environment, for something else I'm writing, not as a goal in itself. I may well back up in a month or two and get it up in 64 bit mode, there's reason to do that, but right now, it'd only serve to slow up my main goal. > > There are a couple of open PRs about this but fixing it is non-trivial. > > Your only current option is to install an i386 world (as well as your > amd64 world) and chroot into it to build i386 apps. Oh, you're telling me that if I run one app as 32 bit (compiling it, the whole enchilada, as 32 bit) would only work if I had the OS, kernel and all libs, as 32 bits? I couldn't just run the X11 as 32 bits? I mean, not only run it as 32 bits, also compile it as 32 bits? If I did that, it would use the OS and libs as 64 bits, and be therefore incorrect? If that's so, it does throw a wrench into things, forcing another set of decisions on me, so I need a confirmation, you'll understand. He's telling you that -m32 doesn't work because the necessary run time support is missing. troutmask:kargl[202] cat h.c #include int main(void) { printf("Hello world!\n"); return 0; } troutmask:kargl[203] cc -o z h.c troutmask:kargl[205] ldd z z: libc.so.7 => /lib/libc.so.7 (0x20063c000) troutmask:kargl[206] file z z: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (FreeBSD), for FreeBSD 8.0 (800040), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), FreeBSD-style, not stripped troutmask:kargl[207] cc -o z -m32 h.c /usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libgcc.a when searching for -lgcc /usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libgcc.a when searching for -lgcc /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc -- Steve From sean at franticfilms.com Thu Jul 31 23:30:04 2008 From: sean at franticfilms.com (Sean Cody) Date: Fri Aug 1 02:21:52 2008 Subject: amd64/125873: [smbd] [panic] Repeated kernel panics, trap 12 page fault while in kernel mode (always with smbd).
