A know good Adaptec 4805SAS controller (works fine under 6.2 i386) and new, know good hardware causes the system to panic. The system was booted off of FreeBSD 6.2 - AMD64 install CD. When the loaded kernel probed the controller it paniced with the following message

  Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
