Date problems (ntpd) & current...

Hi.

I have had this problem for quite some time now. Time related functions
are not functioning. Upon boot I receive the message

ntpd[378]: bind() fd 7, family 28, port 123, addr
fe80:2::202:b3ff:feed:b12, in6_is_addr_multicast=0 flags=0 fails: Can't
assign requested address

Setting the time via rdate yields

rdate -s clock.psu.edu
rdate: Could not read data: Unknown error: 0

Finally, attempting to set the time via the time/date tool in gnome 2.8
crashes (as it did in 2.6).

System is running current... here is relevant info, and thanks for your
help.
