Greetings new commer to FreeBSD, I am sure with the correct help you can get
all the information you need from the following references, as well as doing
a little studying.
Sharaz made a good document to help biginners like yourself.
google open addict and look under how-to's.
http://www.openaddict.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=260
It seems you want to put the right foot forward and this list is mainly used
for promovement of FreeBSD, and I would like to tell you I would be willing
to help you on your way to adopting FreeBSD.
There are many book on the subject, But as in any operating systems, there
is a learning curve.
for more indepth information you should look over the technical details
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/index.html
As well as the port that are already in the ports tree that deal with VoIP
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=VoIP&stype=all
Each port has a maintainer, and Information, Sources, Changes, where you can
download (and it's Dependencies), even the maintinaers contact information
FreeBSD is a Roll your own OS, in most cases you have to recompile the OS
to meet your needs, this requires a good working knowledge of the OS and
it's interworkings.
There are many book available via the various web site that are members of
the FreeBSD community
http://www.freebsdmall.com/cgi-bin/fm
http://www.bsdmall.com/freebsd1.html
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/mirrors.html
If this seems a bit much you could even ask for commerical support from one
of the many companies that offer support
http://www.freebsd.org/support.html
You may want to join or create a users group in your area.
http://www.freebsd.org/community.html
I do not know if I can be more help other that give you a good start and
heading you in the right direction.
If you want to contact me off list do so I always have time for the Free
Open Source Software new recruits.
