Thinkpad T42 USB remains powered when suspended

I've got a T42 running 7.0 that has lousy suspend battery life, it looks 
like this is related to the USB ports remaining powered when in acpi 
suspend. This doesn't happen with APM.

I've tried loading and unloading the module in rc.suspend/rc.resume.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
