We have GDB over firewire.  Ethernet would be nice too, but firewire
actually does more.  Take a look at gdb(4) (new man page).

You still need to grep for them.

I don't buy the argument that they're bad because your sources may be
out of sync.  That's sloppy, and even then they would usually point in
the right direction.  Of course, the revision Id would clarify
anything there :-)
