I think of it the opposite way--that dumping a port with open PRs onto
someone else is not a good thing. I have been mulling over dropping some
other ports, but I am still interested in these two.

I am humbled to realize that you believe ports at freebsd.org does better
maintenance than I, and are willing to say so in public. There must be
many others who hold the same opinion of me, but have kept quiet.

Have you ever waited a year, two years, or longer for PRs you've sent to
be committed? A change that I proposed in June of 2000 was just made this
month, for instance. I am used to this, but even so my patience has at
times run out and I've acted like a dork (hello, billf). Lately I try to
keep in mind that others may also have things going on in their lives
besides their work with FreeBSD.

I believe it is more appropriate than offering the user a port of some
code that only its author has looked at. This simply warns the user of
that fact.

Of course I hope to back out these changes once I have read the code in
question.

Thank you for pointing out my failure as a contributor to FreeBSD. I
am trying to do better.
