I think you misunderstand what this is doing.  pkgconfig is not being
"sucked in" to GNOME.  This is simply a way of specifying a pkgconfig
dependency in GNOME ports.  You don't have to use this if you don't
want, but it makes things a lot easier for GNOME ports.
