Not to detract from the validity of this effort, but I think having some sort
of process supervisor in the base system is a much better solution to the
problem that pidfiles try to solve. A long time ago at a Usenix meeting (in
2002 iIrc) somebody (Doug White?) offered to review any patches I would submit
to bring babysit[1] et al. into the tree. I wonder if that offer still
stands...
