They are macros, but they are _also_ English (or at least mnemonics based
on English -- the modifier is not GEEN_* or PAS_DE_* or whatever, nor are
the macros made up of meaningless symbols).

That being the case, I think the points made by Jos Backus and Garance
Drosihn -- that 'NO' is a modifier and should be made explicit -- are
compelling, and not sufficiently counterbalanced by the fact that 
'NO*' is slightly easier to type than 'NO_*'.
