Hello,

This is not *nix related but I am at my wit's end.
Thought someone might want to make few bucks before I
bang both the drive and the controller on the wall.

Seagate Cheetah 15K Ultra160 ST336752LW works only
when put in SE mode on Adaptec 29160 (diagnostic scan
shows 20.0 mpbs).

Adaptec BIOS does not see the drive any other way. I
have tried all available IDs/combinations/PCI
slots/jumpers etc to no benefit. Damn thing does not
work on LVD mode. Adaptec 29160 is a retail kit and
comes with its own 68-pin LVD cable with a terminator
at its end.

I tried 2 motherboards (Intel 850GB and Gigabyte
8I-HXP) both 32-bit PCI slots -- no difference.

Now, to further complicate things, I also have 2
Seagate Cheetah 15K.3 Ultra320 drives (ST336753LW).
These drives do not work even with SE jumper on when
installed one at a time. However, when installed
together, they sometimes work, sometimes don't. For
example, system powered off for 10 minutes. I power
on, ID0 shows 40.0 mbps, ID1 shows 80.0 mpbs. Few
reboots and ID1 disappears altogether.

Adaptec 29160 BIOS v3.10.0

I don't have any other SCSI card to test them.

Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks in advance for your time and 50 bucks I will
pay if the issue is resolved.

J.
