2.2.0-pre7: SCSI probe still panics (or hangs, w/ egcs)

2.2.0-pre7 (aic7xxx driver 5.1.10) still dies with a panic during SCSI probe on
my system: AWAITING_MSG for an SCB that does not have a waiting message.

For some reason, I get a slightly different result if I compile with egcs 1.1.1
instead of gcc 2.7.2.3: it just hangs forever instead of panicking.

System configuration has not changed since my previous message regarding this
problem, so I won't repeat those details.
