Serious trouble with NOMAI750

Hi!
I ran into trouble using a NOMAI 750 catridge drive connected to an
ADAPTEC2940UW controller. When scanning the SCSI bus at bootup the drive
is detected but when trying to get the disk geometry it times out. This
happens on linux 2.1.105 systems. The drive works fine with:
1.) linux 2.0.31
2.) W95/NT
3.) the adapter bios scanner
After having used linux 2.1.105 with the drive, it is no longer detected
on the SCSI bus even using linux2.0.31/W95 or adapter bios. Does anyone
know a solution for that problem?
SCSI-Bus sequence:
Controller
IBM 4.3GB UW
SEAGATE 1GB standard
Syquest SQ270 cartridge
Toshibs CD-Rom drive
Nomai 750c
aktiv termination(termination power supplied)
