Sorry for not including that info in earlier comments, but I upgraded the box
to 13.1-RELEASE about a month after it came out.  I'll update to -p3 and let
you know how it goes.

(I've gotten much better at noticing the warning signs and restarting firefox
before it is too late to avoid running out of memory and swap. :) )
