Well, I'd say: no matter how corrupted / broken your filesystem is: the
operating system should _not_ crash. 

I'd be in favor of adding more checks to stop these kinds of panics.
Usermount is a very useful option, and it'd be a shame if someone could
just kill the system because of it :)
