I'm very sad to hear that. I was very happy to hear that FreeBSD
finally had an alternative to vinum (other than ccd), especially one
that was shared with some other *BSD platforms.
I say this not because I don't have the greatest respect for
Greg, but because I've had problems in the past with vinum in complex
configurations (RAID-5, or anything combined with softupdates), and I
feel that a little friendly competition would be a good thing.
I have a 4-way PPro/200 fileserver downstairs that I hope to get
installed very soon, and it's got twelve 18GB hard drives, plus a
hardware RAID controller. I was hoping to re-do my previous FreeBSD
software RAID benchmarking (see
<http://www.shub-internet.org/brad/FreeBSD/vinum.html>) comparing
ccd, vinum, RAIDframe, and the hardware controller all on the same
machine.
I'd be willing to make this machine a development & testing
system for RAID code, although I am not a programmer and would not be
able to hack it myself. I'll be glad to do what I can to help, if
someone decides to take over the code.

I'll be glad to do some testing.
